Been a Long Time Gone

Yes, yes, I know, I haven't been keeping up with proper blogging protacol. It's been a good two months since our last post and I have no explainations about our absence, except for life getting in the way. I want to let our readers know that the blogs will be churning out again in the new year. There has been a lot of changes in the studio allowing us to offer an outstanding photography experience.

These changes are going to include a new website design allowing tons of new features and an optional newsletter sent straight to your email. The newsletter will be a monthly publication giving info about us, current promotions and whatever we feel is important. There will also be links to various wedding vendors like bakeries, floral designers, DJs, ect. Plus, more robust text and info areas. All of this will be taking places during the next few months, so keep checking back for updates. Don't be afraid to email us any questions you might have about the updates.

As for the blog, the design is staying the same for now. However, here's what's going to take place within its' pages. More gadgets will be added to expand functionality and user experience. There will be two weekly blogs every Monday and Wednesday. They will cover topics in photographic terminology and basic techniques for the hobbyist. And whatever else might happen.

Ok, that should keep you glued to your screens and chomping at the bits waiting for the new era from Blindvisions Studio. I would like to thank all who've been reading and following and that this next year will be a good one.

See ya' next year and as always, thanks for reading.

Beautiful Day with a Beautiful Girl

It's amazing how every shoot is so different and yet the same. No matter if you shoot a location several times, you always seem to find new areas. Plus, there is always something new to learn. Such is life.

This shoot was no different. We had a great day. Plenty of ambient light, fair weather and two wonderful locals. We started off in the West Bottoms and Keslie was awesome. Extremely easy to work with and took everything in stride, standing in an alley with the wind blowing hard and cold while I set up my lights. Not to mention her Mom and boyfriend had to endure as well. What troopers. (Yeah that was cheesy, I know).

Now being the generous people we are, we also let her b/f , Ryan, sit in on some of the photos as well. Aren't we just wonderful. He too was really good to work with, heck after we finished at the West Bottoms and made a quick jaunt down to Liberty Memorial, he even held the strobes when the wind threatened to blow them to Oz.

Not too much left to say, but it was an excellent shoot. Below are a small sampling of the session. If you what to view more, go to our Facebook page. Plus, if you become a fan you will be notified when new sessions our posted. Now go on and do it, I know you want to. Who doesn't like looking at gorgeous photography. I'm not bias. Well, maybe just a little. Thanks for reading.

Marra & Mike's Breezy Engagement Session

Ok, who said that October could have extremely drastic weather? One day the weather is awesome and the next dreadful. Although, we push forward.

October 11th was an unusually cool day and made for a brisk photo session, however, Marra and Mike were troopers and braved the cool winds to for their engagement session. Just to give you an idea of what they went through, my wife and I had on hoodies and jackets while they had to take off their jackets for some of the photos. It was interesting watching them go from a slight shiver to acting warm fuzzy when we released the shutter.

We started in a park in Lee's Summit were the couple wanted to have some photos of their dogs taken. Well, let's just say dogs have their own way of posing and you just go with the flow. After, the dogs we shot some more at the park and being the nice guy that I am, I let Mike put on his jacket so he could stay warm. (awh.)

Once the park was done, the couple did an outfit change and we headed to the West Bottoms. Now that was fun. This is were we captured some of the best photos of the couple. Their clothes, modern and sleek, gave a great contrast to the old decrepit buildings. Well, you can see that for yourself.

All in all, it was a great shoot, barring the 45 degree temps and 15mph winds. Thank you Marra and Mike for a great session and thanks for reading.

Lindsey & Derek: The Engagement

Hey there in blogger land, here we are with our first engagement session on our new blog (crowd goes wild)! Yes, yes, I know it is quite an accomplishment, but who am I to disappoint the fans.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 was a photographers dream day at the City Market, and was choice for Lindsey & Derek's engagement session. The temperature was a comfortable 70 degrees with a slight overcast giving way to flattering diffused lighting.

We started things off at the farmers' market area giving the couple the KC Skyline as their backdrop and then moved on through several locations creating cherished memories. From beginning to end, Lindsey & Derek moved effortlessly in the photos. Ok, there was a little prodding to get them how we wanted. Just a little. (I wonder if tasers would work...hmmmm?)

After a clothing change, we then made our way towards the river front. There we were met with a "golden hour" sun and a gorgeous early fall sunset. Well, for Missouri anyway. And ended the session with some street lighting shots. Excellent. Please enjoy some of their photos here and click on our facebook badge to see more. Thanks for reading.

Location, Location, Location

Here at Blindvisions Studio, we get a lot of people asking us what would be a good location for their photo session. So, I thought it would be a good idea to let you know the secret on finding a good location. That secret is YOU!

Let me explain. They key to getting great photos is not only the photographers ability and skill, but the subjects comfort in front of the camera. See, most people get nervous if front of a camera and tend to put on a frozen smile. Well, what better way to overcome this then by having the shoot in a location that appeals to you. A location that has some sort of significant meaning to you can really make a huge difference in your photos. Whether it be a first date, family experience, or it's a place you visit often can make all the difference.

There are some other factors to consider when choosing a location as well. Things like, how big is the location, how busy is the location, and what time of day is best for that location? Now let me answer these questions. First, the size of a location is important in the varity of photos that can be shot. Take the Plaza, it's huge with a plethora of places to shoot. There are outdoor and some indoor areas that can expand the session. Another thing is its' location. The Plaza is close to the Kauffman Gardens, the Nelson-Atkins and is only a few blocks from Loose Park giving you even more posibilities. Now to answer the second question is the down side to the fore mentioned areas. With these places being rather popular, there will be some obstacles; people, cars, other photographers, to name a few,  that can't be avoided. It can be a challenge trying to get the session done when your location is extremely busy. Think of when the area is less busy and easier to navigate. This then leads into the third question about time of day and what day. The main reason for this is the light. Throughout the day, the light changes and has different temperatures. I'm not going to go into detail on that. If you want to know more just ask. To simplify, the worst time to take photos is between 11am and 4pm. During this time the sun is bright and shadows are harsh. Racoon eyes anyone? Although there several ways to combat this, but thats for another time. Plus, the sun tends to burn the sky and that lovely blue is turned to an almost white color. Not a pretty site. Now if the day is overcast, well all bets are off, the clouds act as a natural diffuser for the sun and allows for soft light.

Alrighty then, that brings us to the end of this post on location. I hope this has helped you in choosing a location for you future photo session and if you still have questions just drop us line at info@blindvisionsstudio.com and we will answer as soon as posible. Thanks for reading.

Re-lauching a Blog: The Journey

WOW! After being dead on the web for two years, the Blindvisions Studio blog has had new life litterally pumped into it. Since our first postings in 2007, we have been sitting idle as the world blogs us by (yeah, bad pun). Anyway, we've done a lot of research into blogs and what make them good, especially for photographers, and what did we learn? Everything.

Let us keep this brief and to the point. Five post in two months and never posting again, bad. Posting at least once or twice a week, good. Posting everyday, excellent! Making your postings clever and entertaining, PRICELESS!

After our two year hiatus, we want to start out slow and have at least a weekly post that will be about what's going on with our business; such as promotions, events, bookings, photo shoots, etc. Plus, we will be bringing photography related issues to the plate as well. So, you will need to keep checking back to see what's up. I mean that is the whole idea of having a blog and warping the minds of our readers right?

Ok, guess that should do it for our first post and getting back into the internet society.
Thanks for reading,
Ciao.
